Bridge for Civic Leadership Council

Bridge for Civic Leadership Council (BCL) is a co-educational student organization on campus and is registered as a GSO. The organization defines “civic” broadly to include issues and developments occurring within society. BCL is not a pre-law organization and is open to students of all majors. A central component of the organization is a semester-long Civic Project.

Each semester, participants select a topic to research in depth. The organization consists of two primary components: a comprehensive research component and a required action component. The action component may be fulfilled through activities such as volunteer work, an internship, or conducting surveys or interviews.

To support students throughout the project, participants are paired with a professional mentor. Mentors may include individuals with relevant professional experience, such as graduate students or university faculty, though mentorship is not limited to these groups.

At the conclusion of the semester, participants are given the opportunity to present their work at a Civic Project Showcase, where findings are formally presented to an audience that may include mentors and other attendees.
